A Lake Murray Elopement: Lauren & Stephen’s Sweet, Intentional “I Do”

Some weddings you shoot as a photographer. Some you get to experience as a guest who just happens to have a camera in hand. Lauren and Stephen’s elopement on Lake Murray was the second kind, and it’s one I’ll carry with me for a long time.

A Friendship 20+ Years in the Making

I’ve known Lauren for over two decades. We’ve been through the bad fashion choices, the questionable life decisions, the all-nighters, and everything in between that comes with being someone’s friend since you were in middle school. So when she and Stephen decided to elope, right here on Lake Murray, getting to be the one behind the camera wasn’t just an honor — it felt like coming full circle.

There’s something different about photographing a day for someone you’ve been capturing on your camera since childhood. There was no need to break the ice or build trust from scratch. It was just us, doing what we love, for two people we love.

Why Lake Murray Is a Beautiful Choice for a South Carolina Elopement

If you’re considering eloping in South Carolina, Lake Murray deserves a spot on your list. It’s quiet, it’s scenic, and it gives you that soft, golden, water-reflected light that makes for genuinely dreamy photos without needing a big production to back it up. Whether you’re drawn to a dock at sunset, a quiet stretch of shoreline, or a small gathering spot near the water, it offers exactly what an elopement should: space to actually be present in your own moment.

Lauren and Stephen’s day was sweet, intentional, and meaningful — everything an elopement should be. No massive guest list to manage, no rigid timeline to fight against. Just the two of them, choosing each other, exactly the way they wanted to.

Not Goodbye to the Big Celebration — Just a Different First Chapter

Here’s the fun part: this isn’t the only time we’ll get to celebrate Lauren and Stephen’s marriage. They’re planning a full wedding celebration next year (at one of our favorite venues, The River Road & Jasmine Houses), and we already can’t wait to be there for round two. There’s also a little extra excitement on the horizon — Lauren is expecting a baby girl, so by the time their big celebration rolls around, their family will already look a little different (and a lot fuller).

Getting to document their elopement now, and knowing we’ll get to celebrate with them as guests again next year, feels like exactly the kind of love story we hope for in our couples: one that doesn’t follow a single script, but instead unfolds exactly the way it’s supposed to for them.

If You’re Considering an Elopement in South Carolina

Elopements are proof that a wedding day doesn’t need a guest list of 150 to be meaningful. If you’re drawn to something quieter, more intentional, and entirely your own — whether that’s on Lake Murray or somewhere else in South Carolina — we’d love to photograph it.

Sound Like Your Kind of Day?

If an intimate, unscripted “I do” sounds more like you than a big traditional wedding, we’d love to talk it through. Reach out and let’s start planning.

We're not here to make you fit a mold.
We're here to break it with you.

I'm Samantha, the dreamer behind the lens, the one asking "but how did that make you feel?" and probably overthinking your photo timeline (in the best way). I'm driven by the process: the storytelling, the editing, and that magical energy that happens when people feel safe enough to be themselves.

Brady's my other half in life and in business, the people person who makes friends with your entire wedding party and catches those in-between shots no one else saw. While I'm crafting the vision, he's reading the room and making sure everyone feels at ease.
