There’s something about couples who’ve mastered long distance that just hits differently. Sydney and Winston are currently navigating work commitments that keep them apart, but they’ve found their own ways to stay connected—including keeping their relationship alive through Discord gaming sessions. When they’re finally together? The chemistry is undeniable.

We first met Sydney at the Lake Murray Bridal Show last spring, and we knew immediately that we wanted to be part of their story. When she reached out about photographing their spring wedding at 701 Whaley in Columbia, we were thrilled. Their vision for their day is exactly the kind of thoughtful, intentional celebration we love documenting.

For their engagement session, we headed to Main Street in Columbia, SC. Downtown Columbia has this perfect combination of classic architecture, intimate alleyways, and natural light that creates timeless images. No matter what wedding trends come and go, these photos are going to feel just as relevant in twenty years as they do right now.
The backdrop matters, but what really made this session special was watching Sydney and Winston together. Classic, timeless photos aren’t just about location—they’re about capturing genuine connection. And these two brought the love and laughter.

Here’s what most South Carolina wedding photographers won’t tell you: engagement sessions aren’t really about getting pretty pictures for your save-the-dates. They’re about us getting to know YOU before the wedding day pressure kicks in.
During Sydney and Winston’s session, we figured out which prompts made them laugh, which poses felt natural, and how much guidance they needed from us. By the time we show up at 701 Whaley for their spring wedding, we won’t be starting from scratch. We’ll already know how they interact, what makes them comfortable, and exactly how to create space for authentic moments.

What we loved most about Sydney and Winston’s story is how they’ve refused to let distance define their relationship. They’ve built rituals that keep them connected—Discord gaming sessions being a major one. That commitment to staying connected showed up in every frame of their engagement session. This wasn’t a couple going through the motions for the camera. This was two people who genuinely miss each other when they’re apart and make the most of every moment together.

We’re counting down to Sydney and Winston’s spring wedding at 701 Whaley. If their engagement session energy is any indication, we’re in for something special—classic elegance mixed with genuine joy and the kind of laughter that makes you forget a camera is even there.
For couples planning a South Carolina wedding, this is your reminder that your engagement session isn’t just another box to check off. It’s your chance to build a relationship with your photographer before the biggest day of your life, and it’s documented proof of this specific chapter of your story.
Planning your own South Carolina wedding or engagement session in Columbia? We’d love to hear about your story and help you create images that feel authentically, timelessly YOU.
So let's tell it right.
We're not here to make you fit a mold.
We're here to break it with you.
I'm Samantha, the dreamer behind the lens, the one asking "but how did that make you feel?" and probably overthinking your photo timeline (in the best way). I'm driven by the process: the storytelling, the editing, and that magical energy that happens when people feel safe enough to be themselves.
Brady's my other half in life and in business, the people person who makes friends with your entire wedding party and catches those in-between shots no one else saw. While I'm crafting the vision, he's reading the room and making sure everyone feels at ease.
